I arrived at Gustave Roussy 10 years ago when I was finishing my internship in plastic surgery. I very quickly decided to focus my activity on oncology surgery and reconstruction for patients with cancer, mainly breast cancer.

Microsurgery, immediate reconstruction and flap reconstruction using the patient’s own tissues... In barely a decade, the types of treatment available have been entirely transformed. Our approach and support for patients has changed completely, but the Institute was and still is the most advanced centre in France. As an intern then and a surgeon now – there is no better place to practice!

This highly specialised hospital environment allows us to work with fellow professionals who are experts in their field. Every day we talk to medical oncologists, radiologists and radiotherapists, etc. These discussions are very motivating and allow us to offer the best solution for our patients, which is extremely satisfying. There is also strong cohesion within the plastic surgery team. Together, we carry out highly technical and innovative procedures allowing breast cancer patients to preserve both the appearance and sensitivity of their breast. Knowing that we are delivering cutting edge solutions is the driving force for continued progress.

Patient communication is another aspect of my work, and this is key to treatment. Patients often require a lot of information, especially breast cancer patients. It's very important to keep them informed about current practices so that they are prepared and can manage their care. This really changes the way they experience surgery, additional treatments and then reconstruction.

I am interested in developing new information and support tools for our patients. In fact, over the past few years, my team has been working closely with the Espace de rencontres et d'information (ERI – Meeting and Information Organisation) to hold meetings and discussions where patients can express themselves. We are also developing an online platform. This will enable those who cannot come to the clinic to log into the platform and find the answers to their questions.
