Professor Fabrice André

Fabrice AndréSince February 2020, Professor Fabrice André has been the Director of Research at Gustave Roussy, where he leads the research strategy and coordinates the Institute’s medico-scientific research programmes in collaboration with the Director General.

A medical oncologist specialising in breast cancer and a professor of medicine at Paris-Saclay University, he heads the Inserm U981 research unit "Predictive Biomarkers and New Molecular Strategies in Cancer Therapy". His work encompasses various complementary areas of oncology research, from basic science to clinical research, including bioinformatics and biotechnology. He is the coordinator of three projects funded by the Investments for the Future programme, notably the CANTO cohort, the RHU MyProbe, and the national precision medicine centre PRISM, which gained new momentum by becoming a Hospital-University Institute (IHU) in the spring of 2023.

Professor Fabrice André is the author and co-author of 350 scientific publications in international journals and is listed among the most cited researchers in the world (Highly Cited Researchers List by Web of Science Group). He ranks among the 25 most influential figures in precision medicine, according to the think tank BIS Research. He has been honoured with the Young Investigator and Career Development Awards from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). He served as editor-in-chief of the prestigious international journal Annals of Oncology for six years.

In 2021, Fabrice André was the recipient of the Outstanding Investigator Award for Breast Cancer Research, presented by the SABCS and the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) for his significant contributions to translational and clinical breast cancer research. Since 1 January 2023, he has been a member of the Executive Committee of the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO), and he has been elected President of the scientific society for the years 2025 and 2026.

Since 7 December 2023, Professor Fabrice André has been a member of the Presidential Council on Science. This committee’s mission is to advise the President on scientific matters and assist in their consideration in the implementation of public policies.

In 2024, Professor Fabrice André joined the scientific committee of the Cancer Grand Challenge, one of the largest cancer research initiatives led by CRUK and the NIH.
