Dr Dana Hartl

Dana HartlDr Dana Hartl is a surgeon specialising in otorhinolaryngology and head and neck surgery in the Head and Neck Oncology Department at Gustave Roussy, within the Department of Anaesthesia, Surgery and Interventional Procedures.

A dual American and French national, she has been based at Gustave Roussy since 2002, working as a surgical oncologist specialising in tumours of the upper aerodigestive tract. She also leads the thyroid surgery programme at the Institute.

Dr Hartl holds a PhD in science from the University of Paris III and a Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (HDR) from the University of Paris V. She is actively involved in various research projects, particularly on thyroid cancer and robotic surgery. She is the principal investigator of a multicentre phase III prospective surgical study on lymph node dissection in low-risk thyroid cancers.

She is the author of over 200 peer-reviewed publications in English in leading international journals. At Gustave Roussy, she organises training programmes in thyroid surgery, including live surgical demonstrations and online courses, in collaboration with the Gustave Roussy School of Cancer Sciences.

Dr Hartl is a member of numerous French and international learned societies, including the American Head and Neck Society, the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, the International Society of Endocrine Surgeons, and the European Thyroid Association. She is also the moderator of an educational podcast series in both English and French on thyroid cancer, entitled Voices of Wisdom.
