Doctor Philippe Gorphe
Dr Gorphe is a surgeon specialising in otorhinolaryngology and cervicofacial surgery, working in the cervicofacial oncology department at Gustave Roussy.
A Doctor of Medicine from the University of Rouen, former Chief Resident at the Hospitals of Rouen, and former Chief Resident at the Hospitals of Paris, Philippe Gorphe holds a university diploma in robotic surgery, a university diploma in facial plastic surgery, a university diploma in microsurgery, and a DEA in surgical neurosciences.
Dr Gorphe is President of the French Group for the Study of Head and Neck Tumours (GETTEC), a member of the scientific board of the Head and Neck Radiotherapy Oncology Group (GORTEC), a member of the Unicancer Head and Neck group, a member of the French Society of Otorhinolaryngology (SFORL) and the French Society of Cervicofacial Cancerology (SFCCF), and a member of the Robotics Surgery Committee of the European Head and Neck Society (EHNS). A former member of the board of directors and President of the Scientific Council of the International Head and Neck Cancer Intergroup (HNCIG), and former President of the Scientific Council of the ORL Intergroup recognised by the National Cancer Institute, he is involved in clinical research in head and neck cancer.
He is the national coordinator of the TORS-Xi clinical trial (the world’s first study on robot-assisted transoral surgery with the Da Vinci Xi), the MAGNOLIA clinical trial (a Phase II study assessing near-infrared imaging coupled with indocyanine green for intraoperative margin control in head and neck cancer surgery), the TORPHYNX clinical trial (a non-randomised comparative study between radiotherapy, IMRT, and transoral surgery in early-stage oropharyngeal cancers), and co-coordinator of the early-phase HPV.DCvax trial (assessing the safety and immunogenicity of a therapeutic vaccine in HPV-related oropharyngeal cancers). Dr Gorphe is the principal investigator and co-investigator of numerous clinical and translational research projects in cervicofacial oncology.
Dr Gorphe is the author of over 100 international publications. He has contributed to several national and international books and reports, and has presented numerous communications at international congresses. He is also involved in translational research projects on sarcopenia within the 9018 METSY unit – METabolic and SYstemic aspects of oncogenesis for new therapeutic approaches (CNRS/Gustave Roussy/Université Paris-Saclay, UMR 9018), on new photon imaging techniques within the Surgery and Pathology Photonic Imaging group – SP2I (UMS AMMICA US 23 UAR 3655), and on head and neck cancers associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) infections.
